New Delhi, Sep 5 (Agency) On the occasion of Teacher’s Day today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced development and upgradation of 14,500 schools across India under the Pradhan Mantro Schools For Rising India (PM-SHRI) Yojana. According to the PMO, the PM-SHRI schools will have a modern, transformational and holistic method of imparting education. “Today, on Teachers Day I am glad to announce a new initiative – the development and upgradation of 14,500 schools across India under the Pradhan Mantri Schools For Rising India (PM-SHRI) Yojana.
These will become model schools which will encapsulate the full spirit of National Education Policy,” the Prime Minister said in a tweet. “The PM-SHRI schools will have a modern, transformational and holistic method of imparting education. Emphasis will be on a discovery oriented, learning centric way of teaching. Focus will also be on modern infra including latest technology, smart classrooms, sports and more,” the Prime Minister added. The Prime Minister also said the National Education Policy has transformed the education sector in the recent years and he is certain that the PM-SHRI schools will further benefit lakhs of students across India in the spirit of NEP.
Earlier, interacting with the winners of the National Awards to Teachers in the capital, the Prime Minister highlighting the appreciation received by the National Education Policy saying it is a step in the right direction. Emphasising the need to go through the National Educational Policy more than once, he gave the analogy of Mahatma Gandhi where he read the Bhagavad Gita again and again, and each time he found a new meaning. The Prime Minister stressed the need to imbibe the National Educational Policy in such a way that this government document turns into the basis of the students’ lives. He also stressed that the teachers have a monumental role to play in the implementation of the National Educational Policy.
