MPCC chief accused Maha govt of ignoring farmers’ problems

Mumbai, Aug 26 (Bureau) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Nana Patole on Thursday hit out at the Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis government over its alleged failure to solve the problems of farmers in the state. While talking to media in the state Legislature premises here, he said farmers in the state have suffered heavy losses due to recent heavy rains and consequently, the incidents of farmers’ suicides have also gone up in the state. Despite repeated demands by the Opposition for substantial assistance to the farmers, the state government announced meagre aid to the affected farmers but the same has not reached them as yet, he pointed out.

Patole further said “we raised the issue of farmers in the Legislature, but the Shinde-Fadnavis government is not ready to discuss the issue.” “They do not pay attention to the problems of common people, including farmers, workers, unemployed. The ED government in the state does not seem serious about any issue, including farmers’ suicides,” he said. From the replies given by the ministers in the Legislature, it was evident that this government is not serious about farmers’ suicides, MPCC chief said. This government is reluctant to give strong support to the farmers, who have been left high and dry by the government, he added.

The MPCC chief further said the teacher recruitment scandal is similar to ‘Vyapam scam’ and demanded a detailed inquiry into it and punish the culprits. The roots of the teacher recruitment scam in the state have been traced to the Fadnavis government, he said and informed that the recruitment done in the state from 2014-19 is similar to the ‘Vyapam’ scam that broke out in the BJP’s Shivraj Singh Chauhan-led government in Madhya Pradesh.Due to implementation of the recruitment process through a private company, there has been a scam across all sectors, Patole added.
