Vijayawada, Aug 25 (Representative) Tension prevailed in Telugu Desam Party Chief and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s Assembly constituency Kuppam in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh as the Anna canteen to be inaugurated by him was ransacked allegedly by the ruling YSRCP activists on Thursday. Naidu visited his home constituency Kuppam under the programme ‘Badude Badudu programme. On his second day visit, he has to inaugurate Anna Canteen today. However, the canteen was ransacked this morning allegedly by some YSRCP activists. Irate over this the TDP activists rushed there which led to a grapple between the activists and the police. Police resorted to lathicharge in which some TDP activists were injured. One activist was seen bleeding profusely and later he had fainted. The former Chief Minister rushed to the canteen and staged a dharna in protest against ransacking it.
Along with the TDP National President, party leaders and activists, squatted in front of the Anna canteen. The TDP activists started raising slogans against the YSRCP leaders which led to a tense situation in Kuppam. Later Naidu inaugurated the Anna canteen and had lunch there. All educational institutions and commercial establishments remained closed in Kuppam for the day. Later addressing the TDP activists, he condemned the ransacking of Anna canteen and described the attack on Anna canteen as heinous. “I do not know how to describe the YSRCP activists’ attack and ransack of Anna canteen which was meant to provide food to the poor”, he remarked. The TDP Chief announced the launch of “Dharma Poratam” from Kuppam constituency to protect democracy in the state. “The Jagan Mohan Reddy headed YSRCP government is intimidating the TDP activists by using 60,000 police personnel.
They should remember that the TDP has 60 lakh activists. We abide by the law that should not be considered as cowardliness. If I give a call, the TDP activists respond appropriately”, he warned. Naidu said that he had been representing the Kuppam Assembly constituency for the last 35 years but he had never faced such a lawless situation there. The leader of the opposition got emotional when he was showing a TDP party flag soaked in blood of a TDP activist while addressing the gathering. The former Chief Minister predicted that the downfall of the YSRCP led government had begun as the people were disenchanted with the misrule. Meanwhile, tension prevailed at the DGP office in Vijayawada. Large number of TDP activists led by state president K Atchannaidu took out a rally to the DGP office from the TDP office. They squatted in front of the DGP office by raising slogans as state police chief did not give them an appointment to meet him.
