Bengaluru, July 28 (FN Agency) Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday said if situation demands, his government will adopt the “Yogi model” of governance to keep Karnataka under control.” Yogi (Adityanath) is a suitable CM in the prevailing circumstances in Uttar Pradesh. We have been experimenting with available methods to keep Karnataka under control. “If a situation arises, we will come up with Yogi model of governance,” he told reporters here in the wake of barbaric murder of BJP youth leader Praveen Nettaru. His remarks came while commenting on BJP workers’ demand to bring Yogi-type governance in Karnataka. Praveen was fatally attacked by unidentified motorbike-borne assailants on Tuesday night when he was shutting down his chicken shop at Bellare in Dakshina Kannada.Some BJP leaders including Pralhad Joshi and Araga Janendra suspected involvement of Peoples Front of India (PFI) and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in the killing of Praveen who was attacked with sharp weapons. Bommai said his government is determined to crush the organisations that are behind the killings of Hindu activist including Praveen. “We have set up five police teams. One of the teams has been rushed to Kerala. Like in earlier cases, we are sure that the assailants will be apprehended and severely punished,” he said.
A day after the murder, protests erupted in parts of Dakshina Kannada that was led by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) which called for bandh. Stray incidents of stone pelting were also reported from one of the places near Bellare. The incident also triggered mass resignations by BJP workers, complaining about the failure of the BJP government to protect Hindu activists. Even BJP MLA MP Renukacharya threatened to tender his resignation if the government did not take prompt action to protect Hindu activists in the state. The protestors also expressed their anger when they heckled Karnataka BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel and Minister Sunil Kumar Karkala, who had visited the family of Praveen to pay their condolences. The anger was at its peak as they gheroed the car of Kateel and tried to topple it, but the police foiled their bid. Taking cognisance of the ire of BJP workers against the government, Bommai convened a late night meeting and announced the cancellation of Janotsava which was supposed to be attended by BJP National President JP Nadda at Doddaballapur on the occasion of three years of formation of the government in Karnataka. On Wednesday, Bommai told a leading English news channel that it was time to ban anti-national outfit PFI and there was a need for a comprehensive law to ban such organisations. He felt the central government was working towards it.
Bommai also said a full-fledged commando force will be established to completely destroy the organisations implicated in the death of innocent people.He said his government is extremely serious about Praveen’s murder. “Every party worker’s and civilian’s life is valuable. The nefarious organisations have committed enough misdeeds, and the time has come for them to pay,” he said. In the coming days, stern action will be taken in accordance with people’s expectations, CM added.The killings of innocent people have been happening across the nation with an intention to disrupt peace by inciting communal violence and confrontations, Bommai said. He stated that it has been done in Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. During the Congress government’s tenure in Karnataka, 22 BJP workers were killed in the districts of Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Uttara Kannada, and Mysuru, he said. “It is sad that the Congress government abandoned more than 200 proceedings against the organisation that was the subject of the complaints. That emboldened these organisations and they became involved in such crimes,” Bommai claimed without naming the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).
