Smuggled goods worth Rs 8.35 cr seized in Manipur

Imphal, July 21 (Agency) Assam Rifles personnel foiled the smuggling of Heroin and Wood in Chandel District and Areca Nuts in Kakching District in four separate incidents on Wednesday and Thursday. The total seized items in unlike operations resulted in the recovery of narcotics and contraband items worth Rs 8.35 crores. Assam Rifles officials said that based on specific intelligence, troops of Assam Rifles launched a search operation in Old Songyang, Chandel District. After an intense search, two cartons well concealed under the foliage were recovered. The cartons contained 188 Soap Cases of Heroin weighing approximately 1.88 Kg worth Rs 7.52 crores. Seized items were handed over to the Narcotics Control Board, Imphal on Thursday.

On Wednesday troops seized wood worth Rs 8 lakhs which was being ferried in three buses. Seized timber along with the buses and nine traffickers were handed over to the Range Officer, Forest Department, Chandel district. In another operation, at a Mobile Vehicle Check post along Pallel – Imphal axis troops intercepted a truck plying on the road on Wednesday and another truck on Thursday which resulted in the recovery of 137 bags of Areca Nuts along with several other contraband items. The amount of the seized goods are assessed to be worth Rs 75.23 lakhs. The seized goods along with a vehicle and two traffickers were handed over to the Customs Preventive Force, Kakching District.
