New Delhi, July 8 (Agency) Delhi Government has launched the “One Week, One Zone, One Road” initiative, under which the civic agencies have been directed to pick up one road per zone every week in their jurisdiction and carry out the repairs, maintenance, cleanliness and beautification work there, officials said on Friday. The directions in this regard have been issued to MCD, NDMC, PWD and others, they added.
“These works for maintenance of city roads include repairing of potholes, damaged black tops, footpath, green cover, damaged central verge, road paints, road reflectors, street lights, street furnitures, and other public utilities available on that road like public toilets, water ATMs. The agencies have also been asked to ensure the cleanliness of roads by removing garbage dumps, and plastic wastes, and managing C & D waste,” a senior official said. The government has also asked to involve the general public in the initiative to garner genuine feedback on the works. Market Associations and Resident Welfare Associations will be asked to take part in the drive, according to the officials. An action plan to undertake the drive has been asked from the concerned agencies. Concerned officials have been asked to give preference to the roads which need immediate attention, the officials informed.
Besides, the agencies are further asked to submit the weekly completion report to the government about the work carried out, they added. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia who holds charge of PWD said that all agencies need to work together to make the city roads better, safer and more beautiful. “The Delhi Government is determined to provide a pleasant commuting experience and excellent roads to all the residents of Delhi. For this PWD is working diligently and round the clock to make the city roads better. But to make all the roads of the city clean, green and well-maintained, all agencies need to work together. This initiative will be helpful in the direction of making the city roads better, safer and beautiful,” he added. “Delhi Government aims to involve the community in this initiative so that people take ownership of the roads near their residence or place of work and help us keep the city green, clean and well-maintained,” he said further.
