New Delhi, July 8 (FN Agency) Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar on Friday said that the nature of modern warfare is changing and Artificial Intelligence will play a significant role in future conflicts. He was addressing Defence Correspondents on an upcoming event ‘Artificial Intelligence in Defence’ in which the Defence Ministry will launch 75 Artificial Intelligence driven products for the armed forces. “The nature of modern warfare is changing. It is well recognised that Artificial Intelligence will play a significant role in all forms of modern warfare. These are products ‘tried and tested’. The products are either already deployed or in the process of deployment,” said Dr Ajay Kumar. The program, to be inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Vigyan Bhawan, will be attended by officials of the Ministry of Defence, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Defence PSUs, three Services, members of academia, startup and defence industries.
“It is well recognised that Artificial Intelligence will play a very significant role in future warfare. It’s with this objective that the Defence Ministry had created the taskforce in 2018 to workout an action plan to prepare armed forces for Artificial Intelligence and its challenges. A lot of work has happened,” said Dr Kumar. The cutting edge Artificial Intelligence powered products include Human Intelligence Monitoring System, Speech Voice Analysis System, AI-enabled Gesture Recognition System etc useful for the armed forces, officials said. “I am happy to say that over 100 products are also in the process of development. We are in the process of developing certain infrastructure to process and store the data so that we can work on certain classified applications of Artificial Intelligence,” said Dr Ajay Kumar. The program will also see interactive sessions on opportunities in Artificial Intelligence in Defence. These products are coming in from public sector, private sector, DRDO, PSUs, Startups, Services, officials said.
