Vijayawada, July 8 (Representative) The internal politics of the ruling YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh took an interesting turn on Friday as its honorary president and Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s mother Y S Vijayalakshmi announced her resignation to the post. Addressing a huge crowd on the first day of the two-day plenary session of the party in Guntur district, Vijayalakshmi emotionally announced that she has decided to quit the party and resign from the honorary president post. “I have decided to exit the YSRCP since I have to support my daughter Y S Sharmila, who has launched a political party in Telangana. In order to avoid my presence and creating controversy in the YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh, I have decided to exit the party and resign from the honorary president’s post”, she said.
When she announced quitting the party honorary president post the crowd responded disagreeing to her decision and shouted ‘no’. Vijayalakshmi, wife of former Chief Minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, made it clear that despite her exit from the YSRCP in AP, she would continue to be nearer to her Chief Minister son Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. She appealed to people to forgive her for quitting the YSRCP. After her announcement of quitting YSRCP honorary president post, Chief Minister and YSRCP President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy appreciated her decision by hugging her.
Vijayalakshmi, in her marathon speech said that her son Jagan Mohan Reddy is the Chief Minister of the state and leading YSRCP, and at the same time, her daughter Y S Sharmila is leading a political party in Telangana. “My consciousness tells me to support my daughter Sharmila. Since Sharmila needs my support, I have decided to support her. I have never expected such a situation”, she said emotionally. It may be mentioned here that speculation is rife in the media that Y S Vijayalakshmi would resign as honorary president and quit the party. Speculation is that grave dissensions erupted between Jagan Mohan Reddy and his younger sister Y S Sharmila. When Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was in prison for about 16 months in Hyderabad in corruption cases, Vijayalakshmi and Sharmila led the party in the combined AP state.
