New Delhi, June 27 (Bureau) The Delhi unit of the Congress on Monday staged sit-in protests against the Centre’s Agnipath scheme in all the 70 Assembly constituencies in the national capital. The demonstrations were held as part of the grand old party’s nationwide ‘Satyagraha’ against the new recruitment scheme for the forces. The Congress also accused Delhi police that at many places it was prevented from holding the ‘Satyagraha’ despite prior information being conveyed regarding it.
“Congress party has been against the Agnipath scheme from the very beginning.
The scheme will neither serve the interest of the defence forces nor address the concerns of the youth,” Delhi Congress president Anil Chaudhary said. He further said, “The youth who have been preparing for a regular career in the defence forces. But they have been inflicted a shattering blow by the Modi government. The Congress party will back the youth of the country protesting against the Agnipath scheme till it is shelved, and the regular recruitment process in the services resumed.” The grand old party had earlier claimed that the scheme is not in the interest of ‘national security ‘ and the youth.
