Lucknow, June 24 (Agency) To extend support to the joint candidate of the opposition for the Presidential election a meeting was called by Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday, during which 100 MLAs signed a letter of support. Chief Spokesman of the party Rajendra Chaudhary said the meeting called at the state headquarters was attended by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Secretary General Ram Gopal Yadav. “The meeting was convened for the signatures of the MLAs, which is a necessary process for the nomination of the President.
During the meeting, the MLAs expressed their support for Sinha by signing the letter of support,” he said. He said the party’s strategy regarding the presidential election was discussed in the meeting. He said as a joint candidate of the opposition, Yashwant Sinha is all set to contest the election firmly. Polling for the presidential election will be held on July 18. While the ruling National Democratic Alliance has announced former Governor of Jharkhand Draupadi Murmu as its candidate, the opposition has decided to field former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha as its joint candidate.
