New Delhi, June 20 (Bureau) The Supreme Court’s two-judge vacation bench said, it will take up today at around 2 pm for hearing, the Maharashtra’s former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and Minority Development Minister, Nawab Malik’s plea challenging the Bombay High Court’s order of refusing to allow their temporary release to vote in the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) elections, on Monday. The plea was mentioned Monday by both of them — Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh — before the Supreme Court’s two-judge vacation bench, for urgent listing before a bench headed by Justice CT Ravikumar, who said, he will see it and may hear the case around 2pm Monday.
The Supreme Court said it will see it whether keeping in view the matters listed during the vacation, there is circular and the matter has to go before the CJI.”We will see if it can be taken up at 2 PM. Let us see,” the Supreme Court’s division bench said.Maharashtra’s former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and Minority Development Minister, Nawab Malik, had moved the Supreme Court and filed their respective pleas and challenged the Bombay High Court’s order of refusing to allow their temporary release to vote in the upcoming state MLC elections, going on Monday – June 20.The voting and polling process for elections to 10 seats in the Maharashtra state MLC has already begun in the Legislature complex today at 9am and will end at 4pm today. It is expected that the results will be declared in the evening or in the morning tomorrow.
