Vigilance unearthed assets worth over Rs 5 cr in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 19 (Representative) During a house search conducted by the Vigilance Department on Saturday in Balasore district, sleuths uncovered assets worth Rs 5.07 crore. The assets included 24 plots in prime areas of Cuttack and Kendrapara, two palatial buildings each worth over Rs one crore, four-wheelers, three two-wheelers, bank and insurance deposits worth over Rs 73.91 lakh, Rs 1.7 lakh in cash, over one KG of gold and 3.632 kg silver. Vigilance sources here said on Saturday that searches were conducted simultaneously on Ashwini Kumar Das’ properties at six places in Cuttack, Balasore, and Kendrapara districts in response to allegations of acquisition of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Six teams of vigilance led by 5 DSPs nine Inspectors and other staff conducted raid and recovered huge amount of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. During the search operation the Vigilance team has so far found 24 Plots in prime area of Cuttack and Kendrapara district, a Triple storied building at Kalapada, 42 Mouza, Cuttack worth approximately Rs 1.22 Crore. A Double storeyed building at Jhinkiria, Sri Krishna Vihar, 42 Mouja, Cuttack worth approx Rs.1.10 Crore, One Brick Factory at Kalapada, in Cuttack. Valuation of machinery accessories of Brick Factory is being done and Cash Rs 1,70,300. The valuation of the plots is being made by the Vigilance technical wing. He is being examined to ascertain the sources of his assets. Further searches are continuing. The unearthing of more assets is likely and overall valuation is likely to increase.
