Cong leader AK Antony escapes unhurt in CPM attack on party office

Thiruvananthapuram, June 14 (Bureau) Senior Congress leader and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member AK Antony escaped unhurt after CPI(M) workers attacked Indira Bhavan, the headquarters of Congress party in Kerala, on Monday night. Tension prevailed in Kerala after the CPM workers attacked Congress party offices and destroyed party flags across the State, protesting against an ‘in-flight’ protest against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan by two Youth Congress workers at the Airport here this evening. CPM workers pelted stones on KPCC office and destroyed flex boards erected in front of the office when AK Antony and a few other Congress leaders were inside the building.

Talking to newspersons here, AK Antony said this was the first time that the Congress party’s head office was attacked by CPM men in Kerala. He also sought the response of the Chief Minister and CPM State Secretary on the attack on Congress party offices across Kerala. The state-wide attack incidents were reported after the two Youth Congress men staged the protest inside the Kannur- Thiruvananthapuram flight, in which Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was travelling from Kannur to Thiruvananthapuram. Opposition leader VD Satheesan and KPCC President K Sudhakaran strongly condemned the CPM attacks and said the Congress party will continue its protest against the Chief Minister demanding his resignation in connection with the diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case.
