New Delhi, June 13 (Agency) The Delhi Government has earmarked five major markets in the national capital, which will be re-developed and branded globally for their unique identity, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Monday. Addressing the people digitally, the Chief Minister said the markets selected are Kamala Nagar, Khari Baoli, Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar and Kirti Nagar, where the government will soon start the redevelopment work. He said the city government has made a marketing plan to brand these markets, based on the unique identity they carry.
“These areas will be re-developed to a world-class standard and an announcement regarding their designs will be made in the next six weeks,” he added. “Kamla Nagar will be branded as Youth Hangout Zone, while Khari Baoli will be marketed as the place with best spices, which carries the legacy of Mughal era,” Kejriwal said. “Lajpat Nagar is to be branded as high-end street fashion place and one-stop destination for wedding shopping,” he added. Sarojini Nagar will be marketed as the fast-fashion and latest trend-setting street market, said the Chief Minister. Kirti Nagar will be developed as hub of “One stop shop for household items and home decor”. The decision to select these markets was taken by an eight-member committee. Around 39 market associations across the city had applied for the redevelopment plan, which is in accordance with the announcement in ‘Rozgar Budget,’ to create the national capital as hub of retail markets and a global tourism destination, Kejriwal added.
