Congress leaders placed under house arrest, claims party

Lucknow, June 13 (FN Agency) Ahead of the protest against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoning former national president of Congress Rahul Gandhi in connection with the National Herald case, some party leaders were placed under house arrest in Lucknow on Monday, a party leader claimed here.Police has been deployed outside the houses of Leader of Congress Legislative Party Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ and former minister & Chairman of Media Department of the party, Naseemuddin Siddiqui.Media In-charge of the party Ashok Singh that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants to suppress the voice of the general public by adopting a repressive policy in democracy. State General Secretary Sharad Mishra said the party workers will not bow down and will struggle till the end.

Meanwhile, some Congress leaders and workers were detained while attempting to go towards the ED office in the city. A notice has been pasted outside the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPPCC) office that action would be taken, if any attempt was made to take out a protest or dharna outside the party office, as provisions of Section 144 were effective in the city. Party sources had earlier said that Congress will stage a ‘satyagraha’ outside the ED office, protesting the undemocratic action taken against Rahul.When contacted, Siddiqui said that he was supposed to appear before an MP-MLA court in connection with two cases. The Congress leader said that if he will not appear before the court, then an attachment order can be issued against him. He said he told the police officers about the court order, but they ignored him, citing orders. In addition to this, Siddiqui said his wife was being treated by a neurologist and some of her tests were to be done on Monday, but he was not being allowed to move out of his house.
