New Delhi, June 12 (FN Agency) Amid a renewed surge in Covid-19 cases across the country including in Delhi, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital Medical Director Subhash Giri appeared confident that there is nothing to worry as most people in all eligible groups have been vaccinated leaving little possibility of a severe fourth wave. He, however, emphasised on maintaining the Covid protocols and urged people to follow all necessary protection — maintaining hygiene, keeping safe distance, mask-use. “The number of Covid cases at present are increasing. But, the positive point is that the severity of the cases are low. There is nothing to worry about. We have to take all the precautions including wearing of masks and avoiding crowded places,” Giri told UNI in an exclusive interview. The MD further said, “I am not expecting any severe wave, like the second wave we had witnessed as most of the people are now vaccinated and many people got infected also.
People who are vaccinated, will be having lesser morbidity. “”The booster dose increases the immunity further. If the vaccination is completed as per the protocol, then its affect will be less and sometimes even it will go unnoticed,” Giri said, as he urged the eligible people who have not got themselves vaccinated to do so at the earliest.Talking about the arrangements being made by the hospital in the wake of spurt in Covid numbers in the national capital, the MD categorically said, “We are fully ready to handle any situation even though I am not expecting that fourth wave will come. We are ready with the infrastructure. “On Friday, Delhi recorded 655 new Covid cases and two fatalities. The positivity rate is 3.11 per cent, as per the bulletin issued by the government.
“At present, we have kept around 400 beds for Covid care purposes only. If needed, we can increase it to 1,500 beds for the Covid patients. “Secondly, as far as ventilators, monitors and other equipment are concerned, we have them in adequate numbers,” he informed. Giri informed that only five beds are occupied. The generation and supply of oxygen available with us is more than adequate, the MD added. Informing that there has been an increase in the number of Covid tests in the hospital, Giri said: “Some cluster cases of Covid are coming up within a family and many people are getting infected. But these are mild cases and everybody is recovering. “According to the Saturday bulletin issued by the Union Health Ministry, India has registered 8,329 Covid cases and 10 deaths in 24 hours.
