Yoga uplifts mind & body: Sonowal

New Delhi, June 9 (Representative) Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday asserted that yoga uplifts mind and body, and also keeps us calm and composed. Sonowal, who holds the portfolio of Ayush, made the statement while participating in the Yoga Utsav at the picturesque Ziro valley in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Subansiri district, organised as part of 12 days countdown to the International Day of Yoga. “The Bhagavad Gita has captured the essence of yoga beautifully which is a journey of the self, through the self, to the self. I am blessed to practise yoga at the beautiful Ziro Valley,” Sonowal, who is on an official visit to the frontier state, was quoted as saying by his Ministry in a communique here.

The union minister was accompanied by Arunachal Pradesh Education Minister Taba Tedir and Agriculture Minister Tage Teki along with other yoga enthusiasts at the Yoga Utsav. Earlier, Sonowal had interacted with a number of beneficiaries of the government’s welfare schemes and exchanged views at Hija and Lempia villages in Ziro valley. Interacting with the people, the Union minister highlighted that the government-led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi accords highest importance to Northeast to drive an ecologically responsible economic growth of the ‘New India’. He said as the world moves ahead cautiously to strike a balance between ecology and economic growth, the key role of Northeast is to drive an ecologically responsible economic growth for the country.
