New Delhi, June 8 (Agency) Congress on Wednesday launched a fresh attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the alleged objectionable remarks made by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma against the Muslim community, and questioned his silence in the matter. On Sunday, the BJP suspended Sharma for her alleged controversial remark against Prophet Muhammad during a recent TV debate. It also terminated Naveen Kumar Jindal from the party for derogatory comments against the community. “The entire world is astounded by the remarks, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister and Foreign Minister have not uttered a single word in the matter.
Why are they silent? They must break their silence,” Congress national spokesperson Pawan Khera said at a press conference here. He also claimed that the BJP initiated action against them only after it faced severe criticism from the Islamic countries. “The government has failed to win the confidence of every single community. This itself shows the failure of the government in the last eight years due to its selective silence and selective outrage,’’ Khera said. The Congress spokesperson also accused the Centre of using Indian embassies in other countries as the ‘’mouthpiece’’ of the BJP. Meanwhile, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in a tweet while attacking the ruling BJP said, “Fringe is BJP’s core’’.
