Seoul, June 5 (Agency) Day after South Korea and the US ended their joint drills near the peninsular, North Korea on Sunday fired eight short-range ballistic missiles towards the East Sea, according to South military.Yonhap quoted the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) as saying that the launches were detected from 9:08 am to 9:43 am from areas around Sunan in Pyongyang.
“While strengthening monitoring activities and vigilance, our military, in close cooperation with the United States, is maintaining a full readiness posture,” it said. This North’s 18th show of force this year and third since President Yoon Suk-yeol took office on May 10.After US President Joe Biden’s trip to Seoul and Tokyo, the North had test-fired on May 25 a suspected new-type ICBM and two apparent short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea.Meanwhile, the National Security Council will be meeting to discuss North’s latest missile launches.The meeting will be presided by National Security Adviser Kim Sung-han.
