Los Angeles, May 18 (Representative) In a curious but tasty blend of science fiction psychological thriller and dark comedy, Netflix has come up with the trailer of its latest film “Spidehead”. Chris Hemsworth has come back from “Thor: Love and Thunder” and is running a futuristic state of the art penitentiary which is both unsettling and yet carries a strong undercurrent of morbid humour. Just looking at this you can be sure of one thing, you do not want to enter this prison, no matter how much a ‘privilege’ Chris Hemsworth may call it. Based on the George Saunders short story of the same name, director Joseph Kosinski comes forth to create an edge of the seat film which is sure to put in audiences for a ride. The director is best known for movies such as “Tron Legacy” and his Tom Cruise films “Oblivion” and his latest upcoming film “Top Gun: Maverick” a sequel to the 1986 Hollywood classic The official Netflix synopsis reads: “In a state-of-the-art penitentiary run by brilliant visionary Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth), inmates wear a surgically attached device that administers dosages of mind-altering drugs in exchange for commuted sentences.
There are no bars, no cells, or orange jumpsuits. In Spiderhead, incarcerated volunteers are free to be themselves. Until they’re not. At times, they’re a better version. Need to lighten up? There’s a drug for that. At a loss for words? There’s a drug for that, too. But when two subjects, Jeff (Miles Teller) and Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett), form a connection, their path to redemption take a twistier turn, as Abnesti’s experiments start to push the limits of free will altogether. Based on The New Yorker short story by George Saunders, SPIDERHEAD is a genre-bending and darkly funny psychological thriller directed by Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy, Top Gun: Maverick) and written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland).” Based on the trailer alone, “Spiderhead” more than lives up to its description being both funny, psychologically thrilling and yet undoubtedly dark in an almost twisted sadistic sort of way which is all the more worse for wear and only greater the fun.
Taking to Twitter, Hemsworth posted a video and said “Hello there! We are very excited to debut our ‘Spiderhead’ trailer tomorrow, But before you can watch, I’m going to need you to acknowledge: Drip on?” In this Nolan-ish world of some kind of strange and sinister psychological study, as if some one made you chew on some sort of psychedelic hookey doo, where the ethics are clearly tossed in the rubbish bin it would seem. This dark ride also seems a whole lot of fun. The film is produced by Eric Newman for Screen Arcade through Newman’s first-look deal at Netflix, along with Hemsworth. Producers also include Oren Katzeff and Geneva Wasserman for The New Yorker Studios alongside Reese, Wernick, Tommy Harper, and Jeremy Steckler. It stars stars Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller, Jurnee Smollett , Tess Haubrich , BeBe Bettencourt and more. “Spiderhead” will release on June 17 on Netflix exclusively.
