Rahul Gandhi on Modi: Focus on economy not managing media

New Delhi, May 9 (Agency) Taking a swipe on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Monday that, rather than managing “media headlines” PM Modi should focus on managing the country’s economy. “Modi ji, you used to criticise Manmohan ji when rupees fell. Now rupees is at its lowest ever value. But I won’t criticise you blindly.

A falling rupee is good for exports provided we support exporters with capital and help create jobs” Rahul Gandhi tweeted. Rahul made these remarks after the rupees fell all time low against the US dollar in the day. “Focus on managing our economy, not media headlines” he added. India’s rupees has dropped 51 paise to an all time low of Rs 77.41 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday. Earlier, Congress general secretary and chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala, posted a series of tweets taking a swipe at PM Modi over rupee’s fall. He said “In an unprecedented fashion, Indian Rupee has fallen to an abysmal low of Rs. 77.41 to a Dollar. Never has this happened in 75 years.

Under the Modi government, the Indian Rupee is in ICU. “Under the Modi government, the Indian Rupee has fallen even beyond the age of the Prime Minister. What is the reason? he added. “There are three apparent reasons: number one is inflation. Life has become unbearable and expensive. Whether it is petrol, diesel, cooking gas, eatables… Secondly there is immeasurable flight of capital from India; the reason is BJP sponsored communal tension across India” he said.
