‘Prithviraj’ trailer celebrates the life of legendary warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan in a promising way
Mumbai, May 9 (Agency) Director Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s “Prithviraj” has been one of the most awaited films of the year, and now the excitement is at an all-time high as the trailer for his historical biopic was released today. Donning the mantle of the legendary warrior king, Akshay Kumar steps in as the great Prithviraj Chauhan whose position in the annals of Indian history simply cannot be overstated being an icon bravery, valour, strength and honour. The trailer full of grandiose, intensity, nationalistic fervour and of course Bollywood romanticism sees the making of one impressive historical epic with Akshay Kumar clearly getting into the role of the great king. Leaving viewers greatly impressed with its intense dialogue, great action scenes and overall production and atmosphere, it would seem that YRF has left no stone unturned and turned its epic-ness on an 11. But it is not just Akshay Kumar, but also Sanjay Dutt as Kaka Kanha and Sonu Sood as Chand Bardal who look really strong while Manav Vij as the tyrannical Islamic ruler Mohammad Ghori looks truly fierce and intimidating.
Manushi Chillar in her debut role as the great emperor’s wife Sanyogita has a good amount of screen time and looks promising enough while we also get a glimpse of Ashutosh Rana as Jay Chandra who is known from the legend of Prithviraj Raso as Jaichand, the traitor who helped the Ghurids in the king’s downfall. Overall, while still maintaining a Bollywood tone, the film sees a different take which is marked more by authenticity and less by romanticization as it really wishes to tell the story of Prithviraj Chauhan in an authentic fashion while making it a grand spectacle. Talking about the upcoming film, Akshay Kumar said that in his 30-year-long acting career he never got the opportunity to be a part of such a behemoth historical epic. “When Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi narrated the film and told me to play this character, it was a moment of immense pride. I felt mera jeevan safal hua. Everything shown in the film is authentic and correct. It is startling that the story has been unknown for such a long time,” he said. Elaborating further, the actor said he feels that the film should be watched by every child so that they get to know about the proud warrior. “I was given a book to read, ‘Prithviraj Raso’, by my director.
I read the book slowly and realised how big a warrior he was. But when we read about him in history, he was reduced to just a paragraph,” he said. “Today, I want every child, not just in India but in the world, to watch the film. It is an educational film. You would want to show your kids what Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan’s story was. I am extremely proud to work in the film. I would also request the government that they make it compulsory viewing in school, so that the kids learn about our history, what and how everything happened.” Akshay also got teary eyed upon remembering his mother, “I wish my mother… If she was here, she would have been so proud,” he said. On Sunday, on the occasion of Mother’s Day, Akshay had shared a photograph of himself with his mother, with the caption ‘Vaise toh aisa ek din nahi aata jab apka khyal nahi aata, lekin aaj sabke Mother’s Day ke photo dekh kar bahut yaad aa rahi hai. Miss you Ma.” His mother passed away last year in September. Speaking on the film Chandraprakash Dwivedi said “Prithviraj is my dream project. It’s a script that I have nurtured for a long, long time because of the extensive research work that was needed before I even attempted to make a film on this mighty and legendary king.
To be precise, Prithviraj’s final research took about six months for me to be fully satisfied that every single fact was checked multiple times.” He added “I read many books on his life to ensure that we are doing justice to Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan in our film. Today, I’m deeply satisfied as a writer and filmmaker that I took this time before I could realise my dream. There is no Samrat like ‘Prithviraj’ in our history and I hope our film is a fitting tribute to his valour and magnanimous way of life.” Sharing the film’s trailer on Instagram, Akshay wrote: “Shaurya aur veerta ki amar kahaani…Yeh hai kahaani Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan ki. Releasing in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Celebrate Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan with YRF50 only at a theatre near you on 3rd June.”
