BJP to render 24 lakh homeless: Sisodia

New Delhi, May 5 (Agency) Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia alleged on Thursday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-run municipal corporations have planned to raze constructions at 1,750 unauthorized colonies and 860 slum areas in the national capital. Addressing a press conference here, he said the demolition will make 14 lakh people living in these colonies as well as 10 lakh in slums homeless. “BJP-ruled municipalities — South, North and East MCDs — have issued notices to nearly three lakh people in the last two years.

They are also planning to bulldoze houses in 1,750 unregularized colonies and 860 slum areas. BJP with its bulldozer politics is going to make around 24 lakh people homeless living in these areas,” he said. Sisodia said the demolition plan was contrary to the Central government’s efforts to regularize the unauthorized 1,700 colonies. He said the matter will be raised with the Centre. “On one hand, the BJP-run Central government talk of regularizing illegal colonies while on the other their MCDs give notices for demolition. I will write a letter to the Centre on this,” the Aam Aadmi Party leader said. Last year, the Centre had passed a Bill in the Lok Sabha to protect the 1,700 unauthorised colonies in Delhi from the sealing exercise till 2023.
