Sensex jumps 776.72 points

Mumbai, April 26 (Agency) Snapping a losing streak of the last two sessions, the BSE Sensex on Tuesday zoomed up 776.72 points to close at 57,356.61 on positive global cues. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too gained 246.85 pts at 17,200.80. The Sensex opened higher by 481 pts at 57,066.24. During the day, it spurted 863 pts at 57442.24 before closing at 57,356.61, up 776.72 pts from its previous close. The Sensex registered days high and low at 57,442.24 and 56,904.51 points respectively. The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,223.85 and 17,064.45 respectively.

The sectoral indices like Power, Utilities, Realty and Auto pushed the market up. In scrips, Powergrid rose by 3.93 per cent to Rs 231.65, a major gainer in 30 scrips of BSE, followed by Titan by 3.92 pc to Rs 2550, M& M by 3.85 pc to Rs 938, IndusInd Bank by 3.54 pc to Rs 980.30 and Bajaj finance by 3.31 pc to Rs 7240.70. The losers were Axis Bank by 0.70 pc to Rs 775.20, Asian Paints by 0.15 pc to Rs 3125.40, Maruti Suzuki by 0.12 pc to Rs 7901.30 and TCS by 0.09 pc to Rs 3544.65. The Mid Cap rose by 1.62 pc and Small Cap by 0.76 pc. In 30 scrips, 25 advanced, 4 declined while one remained unchanged. The Asian Market was seen up as Hong Kong moved up by 0.15 pc, Japan by 0.41 pc and Taiwan by 0.14 pc.
