New Delhi, April 20 (Agency) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed government after the North Delhi Municipal Corporation carried out demolitions in Jahangirpuri area of Delhi, and called it demolition of India’s constitutional values. “This is a demolition of India’s constitutional values. This is state-sponsored targeting of poor and minorities. BJP must bulldoze the hatred in their hearts instead,” he said in a tweet. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Leader of Opposition in Bihar Tejashwi Yadav also slammed the government, and questioned if government is concerned with peace and harmony in the country. “China has constructed two villages in our territory but forget bulldozers, they don’t even speak about it. Would you only run bulldozers on the basis of caste and religion, or would you also worry about unity, harmony and Constitution,” Yadav said in a tweet in Hindi.
“If this construction is illegal what was the administration doing for all these years?” he questioned. The special joint encroachment removal programme in Jahangirpuri has been planned for Wednesday and Thursday where clashes broke out during a Hanuman Jayanti procession on April 16. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana said status quo be maintained in the case. The matter be listed before the appropriate bench tomorrow (Thursday), the bench added. Amid rising mercury in the national capital a nearly 1000-metre stretch in violence-hit Jahangirpuri saw JCBs crumbling down structures as heavy police presence maintained peace in the areas. The demolition was stopped around one and a half hour after the Supreme Court gave an order as a copy of the order was handed over to the demolition team.
