New Delhi, April 18 (Agency) Congress Chief Spokesperson Randeep Singh SUrjewala on Monday slammed the government over plans to increase Goods and Services tax over a number of commodities and over continuing inflation. In a series of tweets, Surjewala said government has found “new ways to fleece Indians by increasing GST slab from 5 percent to 8 percent” on commodities like spices, chapati, oil, tea, coffee, sugar and sweets.
Other commodities on which GST is likely to increase includes coal, bio-gas, fertilisers, life saving medicines, shoes, slippers, incense sticks, walking sitcks, hearing aids, hearing aids, carpets, handmade carpets, tailoring, takeaway food, AC & Non AC Restaurant Food, AC & Radio Taxi, printing of newspapers, economy air travel among other things. In another tweet, he slammed the government over inflation. “People are already in pain even before increase in GST Slab from 5 percent to 8 percent, Wholesale Inflation is touching a new high of 14.55 percent in March, Petrol/Diesel-Gas-CNG-PNG-Lemon-Vegetable prices have destroyed everyone’s Budget, Stop fleecing Indians for God’s sake!” he said.
