Thane, April 8 (Agency) With the arrest of eight persons, the Crime Branch of Navi Mumbai claimed to have busted a gang operating in and around Navi Mumbai, involved in ATM bank card cheating cases, the police said on Friday. Addressing a news conference, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Navi Mumbai, Suresh Mengde, told newsmen that they had received complaints that some unidentified accused were moving in the vicinity of the ATM centers, targeted the victims and stole their ATM cards replacing it with the fake ones and siphoned off the money from their accounts. Acting on a tip off, the gang members were in Mumbai and were planning to carry out a dacoity at the ATM center at Panvel, the police laid a trap and arrested them on Wednesday, the police said.
They were arrested with dreaded weapons and seized as many as 89 ATM cards of different banks from the arrested, the police official said. The arrested accused are from Bihar state, they used to come to Mumbai and after finishing their task, they returned to their hometown. A total of 12 offences in Panvel, Rabale, Rabale MIDC, Ghatkopar, Worli, police stations have been detected following their arrest the police said. The alleged accused were identified as Baccha Mahavir Mahato (43), Munilal Kumar Krishna Mahato (25), Navin Indar Paswan (24) Nareshkumar Rambabu Sahani (31), Sunil Bonda Swami (26), Badai Hiraman Sahani (28), Awadesh Lalji Paswan (28) and Mohammad Rizwan Mohammad Nanne (32). A case was registered and further investigation was on, he added.
