New Delhi, April 7 (FN Representative) The Delhi Government will provide a Rs 7,500 subsidy on the first 1,000 electrical cycles purchased in the national capital while a subsidy amount of Rs 5,500 will be provided to the purchasers of the next 9,000 e-cycles. Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot said that the state government is now including e-cycles under the government subsidy net. “Delhi has now become the first state in the country to incentivize e-cycles under its EV policy. This will include both passenger and cargo e-cycle having a speed of less than 25 km/hour,” he informed. According to the Transport Department, a purchase incentive of 25 per cent of MRP up to Rs 5,500 will be provided to the first 10,000 buyers.
An additional incentive of Rs 2,000 to the first 1,000 individual e-cycles owners will be provided to create the much-needed demand for e-cycles. Similarly, the Delhi Government will also provide a purchase incentive of 33 per cent on MRP up to Rs 15,000 per vehicle to the first 5,000 e-cargo cycles buyers to support the food delivery and e-commerce drivers in the city. In addition to the purchase incentives, all the purchasers of e-cycles and cargo e-cycles will also be eligible for a scrapping incentive of up to Rs 3,000 per vehicle for scrapping and deregistering old ICE two-wheelers registered in Delhi. The Minister said that the two-wheelers account for 36 per cent of total electric vehicles sold in Delhi. “Delhi is making its mark as EV Capital of India. Nearly 46,000 Electric vehicles sales have been sold to date under the Delhi EV policy. The city also achieved the Highest EV sale contribution of 12.6 per cent of March 2022 vehicle sales. The halfway mark of Delhi’s vision of 25 per cent EV by 2024 has been achieved.
It shows the trend moving towards more adoption by both individuals and fleet owners,” he added. The Transport Minister also said that when the government started the Electric Vehicle Policy, the initial target was kept like 25 per cent registration of new vehicles will be from electric vehicles by 2024. About two and a half years ago this percentage was nearly 1 or 2 per cent only which has now reached 12.6 per cent in Mar’22. He said that Delhites deserve congratulations for this. Talking about EV subsidy disbursal, he mentioned a total of 59.44 crore subsidy has been given so far by the Delhi Government. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal congratulated the people of Delhi on his government’s decision. “Congrats Delhi! Today we are taking one more important step in the fight against pollution. Delhi government’s hugely successful e-vehicle subsidy policy is being enhanced with a subsidy for electric bicycles today. E-cycles will help Delhiites reduce the use of polluting vehicles,” he posted on Twitter.
