Cong takes dig at Delhi govt over Ghazipur landfill

New Delhi, April 1 (Agency) The Congress party on Friday took a dig at the AAP government in Delhi over the recent fire incident at Ghazipur landfill and accused it of indulging in ‘blame game’. ” Kejriwal government indulges in ‘blame game’ without taking strong, effective steps with MCDs to tackle the festering Ghazipur landfill menace,” Congress Delhi unit president Ch Anil Kumar said on Friday. He further said, “Instead of owning up the blame for the Ghazipur landfill fire, the Delhi Environment Minister has directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to impose a fine of Rs 50 lakh on the East Delhi Municipal Corporation for ‘negligence’.

The Minister also sought action against officials, which amounted to shirking his own responsibility, as the Government cannot absolve itself for the Ghazipur landfill fire.” Both the Municipal Corporations and the Kejriwal government, who have been ruling Delhi for the past 15 years and eight years respectively, should own up the blame equally as it was their “incompetence” and inaction which led to the present state of the Ghazipur landfill, the Delhi Congress chief said. “Whenever a mishap happens at the landfill, the blame game starts between the MCD and the Delhi Government, though they never join hands to find a lasting solution to this serious civic hazard, which not only pollutes the air, but also poisons the ground water, causing serious health hazard to people all around,” he added.
