New Delhi March 31 (Agency) India Meteorological Department(IMD) on Thursday said that above normal temperatures are likely prevail over most parts of the northwest and Central India during the month of April. In its monthly outlook report for temperature and rainfall, IMD said, “Normal to below normal maximum temperatures are likely over the south peninsular and many parts of eastern India and adjoining areas of northeast India.” Earlier the weather agency said that Heat Wave Spell is likely to continue over Northwest, Central and West India during the next 4-5 days. However the intensity of the Heat Wave will reduce over Northwest India from 01st April, 2022 onwards, said the IMD. Regarding rainfall predictions, below normal rainfall is predicted for several regions during April.
“Below normal rainfall is most likely over most areas of northwest and central India and some parts of northeast India” it said. IMD said normal to above normal rainfall is likely over many parts of southern Peninsula, adjoining areas of west central India and in some parts of northeast India. Mentioning the La Niña conditions which are currently prevailing over the equatorial Pacific region, IMD said, La Niña conditions are likely to continue throughout the forecast period. “Other climate models are also indicating enhanced probability for La Niña conditions likely during summer season” it said. The La Niña and El Nino are oceanic and atmospheric phenomena that typically develop between April and June and gain strength during October and February. Though these events prevail for 9-12 months, they can last for up to two years. “At present, neutral Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions are active over the Indian Ocean and the latest MMCFS forecast indicates that the neutral IOD conditions are likely to continue during summer season” it said.
