Intl cartel busted: 2 held, 10 kg heroin recovered

New Delhi, March 29 (Agency) Delhi Police Special Cell busted an international drug cartel and recovered 10 kg heroin that was smuggled in India from Myanmar via Manipur. Two key members were arrested from the national capital, police said on Tuesday. Those arrested have been identified as Nazir, 28, and Dinesh Singh, 57, both from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur.

The value of the recovered heroin is estimated to be above Rs 40 crore, the police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police Jasmeet Singh said the breakthrough was made possible as a dedicated team was working on information about a drug cartel that has been active in Manipur, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi. Members of this cartel were allegedly involved in receiving, supply of heroin smuggled from Myanmar and further sold to various parts of the country — this information was developed through human surveillance, the officer said. During the process, members of the cartel were identified and their activities were kept under surveillance. Both drug suppliers were arrested from near ISBT Sarai Kale Khan T point along the Delhi-Meerut Expressway early on March 24 from a car. Ten kilogram of the drug was recovered from their possession., said the DCP.
