Mumbai, March 22 (Agency) The BSE Sensex on Tuesday bounced back by 696.81 points to close at 57,989.30 following gains in technology, IT and energy stocks. The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) surged 197.90 points at 17,315.50. Despite high volatility, the equity market ended in the green as the BSE Sensex opened on a steady note at 57,297.57, rising five points in early trade. It jumped 760 points at 58,052.87, the day’s high, before closing at 57,989.30, up by 696.81 points from its previous close. Meanwhile, it dropped nearly 362 points at 56,930.30. The Sensex registered the day’s high and low at 58,052.87 and 56, 930.30 points respectively. The Nifty recorded the day’s high and low at 17,334.40 and 17,006.30 respectively. Sectoral indices like technology, oil and gas, IT and energy stocks pushed the market up.
In scrips, Tech Mahindra was a major gainer, up by more than 3 per cent at 1,538.45 followed by Reliance Industries by 2.59 per cent to Rs 2,531.30, Bajaj Finserv by 2.46 per cent to Rs 16,574.85, ITC by 2.21 per cent to Rs 249.80 and TCS by 2.09 per cent to Rs 3,700.95. The losers were Hind Unilever by 2.81 per cent to Rs 1,993.80, Nestle India by 2.49 per cent to Rs 17,415.65, NTPC by 0.08 per cent to Rs 132.85 and Sun Pharma by 0.06 per cent to Rs 913.90. The Mid Cap rose by 0.17 per cent and Small Cap by 0.15 per cent. In 30 scrips, 26 advanced while 4 declined. A mixed trend was witnessed in European market as investors continued to monitor the war in Ukraine and economic developments in the United States. The pan-European Stoxx 600 moved up 0.15 per cent and Germany’s DAX rose 1.08 per cent, and France’s CAC40 too gained 0.8 per cent. In Asian Market, Japan’s Nikkei moved up 1.5 per cent, South Korea’s Kospi and Australia’s ASX200 too gained 0.9 per cent each. Even, Hong Kong’s hang Seng climbed over 3 per cent.
