Free food to patients’ kin at 6 Delhi hospitals


New Delhi, March 21 (Representative) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will on Monday flag off a ‘rath’ with a difference. According to a statement issued from Lok Sabha Secretariat on Sunday, Birla’s chariot will provide food to attendants of patients for free at six hospitals in Delhi. The initiative, called “Prasadam Rath” will be launched from the Speaker’s residence here.

These raths will have facilities for cooking and heating food. “They will provide hot, hygienic and nutritious food to the attendants of patients in six hospitals including Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital, Lady Harding Hospital in the city,” the statement added. According to the LS Secretariat, the Prasadam Raths have been made available by Birla himself. The initiative will replace the service of food packets which were being provided till now to the attendants of 1,000 patients at four hospitals every day by “Aao Saath Chale” organisation, besides being expanded to other hospitals soon, it added. “…but now on the initiative of the Speaker, the scheme has been expanded and Prasadam Raths have been conceptualised for providing hot, hygienic and nutritious food to the attendants of patients,” it said.
