‘Companies can consider jobs in Rural India to save costs’

Chennai, Mar 16 (FN Bureau) Traditional organisations like Tata Steel does not see technology as a threat but as an opportunity, while sucessfully transitioning and utilizing available technology, T V Narendran, President, CII and CEO and Managing Director, Tata Steel Ltd said today. Speaking at the opening plenary session of the Conference “South India@75 – Journey from Traditional to New Age Economy”, organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Southern Region here, he said the private sector can only supplement and support the Government in creating opportunities and initiatives in building rural India as the migrants who moved back to their hometown prefer to look at jobs closer to their homes. The digital revolution is coming. The change in pace is fast with jobs getting obsolete if the pace of transition not quick enough, said C K Ranganathan, Chairman, CII Southern Region and CMD, CavinKare Ltd in his address.

CII Southern Region celebrating 75 years represents both traditional industries and new gen companies with the mandate and role to help members navigate to the new age economy making them globally competitive, he said. Sridhar Vembu, Founder & CEO Zoho Corporation Pvt Ltd mentioned the next phase of transformation in new age technology would be from the mainframe era to mobile era. “I foresee with digitizing of factories, automation becomes more accessible and today Information revolution is all about remote working. The future and key goal is to have smart towns and villages providing high value jobs resulting in intellectual output”. Jobs can be relocated to rural areas of India, as living standards are getting better and quality of life is far better when compared to metros , said Sridhar Vembu to a query query by Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII on when would India be seen as the front office capital of the world from the backroom capital of the World. Agreeing to the remote working possibilities, Narendran commented saying Jobs can go to people instead of people going towards jobs. The pandemic has helped immensely with a mindset change of people can work remotely. As a matter of fact, new age manufacturing plants are today run remotely.
