New Delhi, March 14 (FN Agency) Rajya Sabha members across party lines on Monday expressed concerns over the future of Indian medical students forced to leave Ukraine midway before completing their studies. Raising the issue in Zero Hour TDP’s K Ravindra Kumar demanded government clarify its position on the issue. “Though the safety and security of the students have been ensured, their future is at stake now. The war is not likely to end in near future. I urge the government to take necessary steps after consulting the stakeholders,” said the TDP MP. The students are in a very difficult situation. Their entire families are concerned about their future. It’s a great concern in the country right now. The education has been on a standstill. The government has to clarify it. They have to give a relief on that matter,” KC Venugopal of the Congress said.
BJD MP Dr Amar Patnaik suggested measures to accommodate these students in private and government colleges etc. “Increase the seats to 2 to 5 per cent in all the government and private medical collages. So their education does not suffer,” he said. Many MPs gave notices in both Houses of Parliament to discuss the issue of Ukraine and its impact over the education of Indian students. “Some special steps should be taken to accommodate them here in India,” said Dr Shantanu Sen of the AITC. Chairman Venkaiah Naidu said that the issue requires to be addressed but “it is complicated.” “Shantanu Senji you are a doctor, you know that regulations of the Medical Council of India and also the other procedures. I do agree this has to be attended, but it’s a complicated matter,” he said. Naidu said the EAM will make a statement on Ukraine in the House and thereafter the House will debate the Ukraine issue. Naidu also praised the evacuation of Indian students. He said it was a challenging task. “Government rose to the occasion to evacuate Indian students as well as students of other countries.
