PRTC employees on strike

Puducherry, March 14 (Agency) Employees of the Puducherry Road Transport Corporation(PRTC) on Monday resorted to a flash strike which resulted in disruption of bus services. PRTC employs around 800 people in all the four regions of the union territory. The employees were not paid their bonus for the last two years. 20 days back the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) union served strike notice to the management seeking bonus.

However, the management refused to even discuss the matter with the employees so far. Following this, all trade unions convened a meeting last evening and decided to go on strike from today onwards. Accordingly PRTC buses plying in urban and rural areas here were stopped. Following the strike, bus services to Chennai, Karaikal, Bengaljru and Mahe were suspended and the ticket fare for those who booked tickets in advance are being reimbursed.
