Marvel’s “What if…?” bags Critics Choice Awards after its win at 49th Annie Awards

Los Angeles, March 14 (Agency) Marvel Studio’s more experimental take on the MCU universe with their animated anthology series “What if..?” has received mostly positive reviews. The show focuses on alternate scenarios, realities and timelines set within the MCU in a further exploration of the concept of the multiverse which was first explored in “Spider Man: No Way Home”. Premiering exclusively on Disney+ last summer, the series is adding some serious hardware to its trophy case. On Sunday evening, “What If…?” became a winner of the 27th Critics Choice Awards, besting a number of other animations for the Best Animated Series, beating Big Mouth, Blue, Bob’s Burgers, The Great North, and Q-Force, for the honors ahead of the show’s second season. Furthermore, the show also an Annie Award for its Ultron episode on Saturday.

Season Two has been confirmed as a 2022 release, and fans will finally get to see the story play out between Gamora and Iron Man, an episode delayed from the first season due to COVID-related delays. There have also been hints which have detailed alternate takes on the MCU movies similar to the Ultron episode which is often considered the pinnacle of the whole series such as Sam not earning Cap’s shield, some different ending to Wanda Vision, an evil Thor or Bucky either never becoming the Winter Soldier or never erasing HYDRA from his mind and forever remaining a tool in their hands etc. Though sadly, one character who won’t be featured in the second season of the show is Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther following the actor’s death in 2018, and the producers have confirmed that the actor never recorded anything for season 2. As such we are unlikely to get any alternate realities featuring King T’Challa, such as an evil version or “What if…T’Challa became Iron Man?”. ”What if…?” is an exciting show featuring many different takes to the Marvel universe and catering to much fan service as many fans have wanted to see a different “What if?” scenarios to the events that have been portrayed in the MCU films or different versions of the characters.
