New Delhi, March 9 (Bureau) Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two officers, one Superintendent and one Inspector, of CGST posted at Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar Islands) for allegedly accepting a bribe from the complainant for processing his GST registration, officials informed on Wednesday. A case was registered against both based on the allegations of demanding a bribe of Rs 20 thousand from the complaint for processing his GST registration.
After negotiation, the bribe was allegedly reduced to Rs 15 thousand, said CBI spokesperson. Both officers, identified as Atanu Kumar Das, Superintendent, and Manoj Kumar, Inspector, were posted at CGST office Port Blair in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The complainant was directed by the Superintendent to pay the alleged bribe amount through the Inspector, CGST, Port Blair, CBI said. CBI laid a trap and caught the Inspector while accepting the alleged bribe of Rs 5 thousand from the complainant. The Superintendent was caught later. Searches were conducted at the premises of both the accused which led to recovery of cash of Rs 9.33 lakh and several incriminating documents. Both were produced before the Court at Port Blair and remanded to Judicial Custody, CBI said.
