BJP-SP-BSP only talk of religion, caste: Priyanka

Lucknow, March 3 (Agency) Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) accusing them of doing politics in the name of ‘religion’ and ‘caste’ while ignoring the real issues troubling people of Uttar Pradesh. “BJP, SP and BSP only talk about ‘religion’ and ‘caste’, but not about the real issues that people are facing as they think that they will get votes on this basis.

“We (Congress) are batting for a new politics in Uttar Pradesh which is ‘development-based’ and not on religion and caste,” the Congress leader said at a rally in Sonbhadra. She also attacked the other parties saying they don’t talk about unemployment, or what facilities they would provide to farmers and small businessmen, and development of Adivasis, as she appealed to the voters to bring Congress to power on March 10 “You should look at the niyat (intention) and niti (principle) of a political party. “We are talking about issues which are ailing people. This is the right time to decide what you want in the future,” the Congress leader said.

Mentioning about the problem of stray cattle, she alleged the government of not doing anything to resolve it. “Similar problem (stray cattle) was in Chhattisgarh, but the Congress government there overcame it because of its effort. “It is the duty of the leaders to solve your problems by finding a solution,” she said. On women empowerment, the 50-year-old Gandhi ‘scion’ said her party gave 40 per cent tickets to women to encourage them to participate in the elections. Attacking the BJP-led government at the Centre over ‘demonetisation’ and ‘GST’, she said, “Common people and small businesses were affected.”
