Govt not taking effective steps to bring back stranded Indians: Rahul

New Delhi, Feb 28 (FN Agency) Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused the Centre of not taking effective steps to evacuate Indians stranded in Ukraine. “Conditions of Indians stranded in Ukraine are worsening. Yet, the Government of India is not taking effective steps to bring them home,” he said in a tweet, attacking the Centre. The former Congress president also shared a video of a student stuck in Kyiv in which she claimed that some students were being harrassed by the military as they tried to cross the border.

“We are calling Vikram Kumar of the Indian embassy. He is continuously rejecting our calls. We have sent a video in which girls are being beaten at the Romanian border. In such a situation instead of guiding us, the government is doing nothing for us,” she claimed. Earlier in the day, the Congress MP in a tweet said, “My heart goes out to the Indian students suffering such violence and their family watching these videos. No parent should go through this.” “Government must urgently share the detailed evacuation plan with those stranded as well as their families. We can’t abandon our own people,” he added. Echoing a similar sentiment, BJP MP Varun Gandhi while sharing the same video in a twitter post, in an apparent attack on the Centre, said, “More than 15,000 students are still stuck because of not taking the right decisions at the right time. Their safe return is not a favour but our responsibility. In every disaster, opportunity should not be searched.” Meanwhile, a sixth flight took off from Budapest with 240 Indian nationals as part of ‘Op Ganga’ to evacuate Indians from war-hit Ukraine. So far, five flights have evacuated over 1,000 Indians, with one landing in Mumbai and four in Delhi.
