India offers credit line for economic, trade cooperation with Iran

Munich/New Delhi, Feb 20 (FN Bureau) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stressed on India’s readiness to open a credit line for economic and trade cooperation with Iran, during his talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. According to an Iranian readout of the talks held on Friday, Amir Abdollahian and his Indian counterpart discussed the latest developments in bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual interest. During the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers agreed on the development of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, regardless of the developments in Vienna.

Referring to the vast capacities for the development and comprehensive expansion of relations between Tehran and New Delhi, Iran’s Foreign Minister emphasized on Tehran’s readiness to implement the projects agreed between the two countries. Amir Abdollahian expressed satisfaction with the recovery of EAM from Covid-19, noting that he is planning to visit Delhi at the earliest opportunity. Amir Abdollahian also expressed his hope that during the trip good agreements will be reached for the development and promotion of bilateral relations, and “consultation on some issues of common concern in the regional arena will be made”. EAM Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s determination to develop cooperation with Iran in the fields of oil, industry, agriculture and trade. He also stressed India’s readiness to open a credit line for economic and trade cooperation.

The two also exchanged views on the latest situation in Afghanistan, emphasizing the common views of the two countries on the need to form an inclusive government with the participation of all political groups in Afghanistan. EAM Jaishankar, on his talks with the Iranian Foreign Minister, had tweeted that it was a productive meeting, and the two discussed economic cooperation, connectivity, Afghanistan and the Iranian nuclear deal. “Productive meeting with Iranian FM @Amirabdolahian. “Discussed economic cooperation, connectivity, JCPOA and Afghanistan.” The Iranian FM was due to visit India late last month to hold talks with the EAM, but the visit had to be postponed after the latter came down with Covid.
