Kolkata, Feb 15 (FN Agency) Apart from solar, the offshore wind sector would be a new avenue in India for international investors to look into, according to joint secretary of ministry of New and Renewable Energy, GOI, Dinesh D Jagdale. ” There will be a total clarity in near future and opportunity for investors to come and invest into this very eventful sector,” Jagdale said on Tuesday while addressing a webinar on “Opportunities in Renewable Energy sector in Bahrain. He also underlined the role of hydrogen in future, saying the world is looking at hydrogen as a feedstock which will create avenues for the hardcore sectors to de-carbonise.
“We believe that India has that potential and ability to create demand and while it creates demand it will also create an ecosystem which will be efficiently supporting many countries and we believe India and Bahrain can also take benefit of this opportunity whether it is the biomass to hydrogen or it is dihydrogen or whether it is the green electrolysis route hydrogen. I think manufacturing of electrolysers would be a key potential for all of us to look at in future,” Jagdale said. Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Bahrain Piyush Srivastava said that renewable energy has emerged as one of the most important areas and it has huge potential for bilateral trade and investment as well as for cooperation in technology and capacity building. “It is a matter of great happiness that Bahrain has completed all procedures for joining the International Solar Alliance and this would certainly give a great push to our cooperation in the solar energy sector,” he said. Srivastava noted that the private sector of both counties are fully aware of opportunities available in this sector and are ready to harness it.
“The Kingdom of Bahrain has also set the net zero emission target by 2060. There is plan for the national renewable energy target of 5% i.e. 250 MW by 2025 and 10% i.e. 710 MW by 2035. With the Economic Vision 2030, Bahrain has embarked on a journey of diversification of its economy with liberalization of the FDI regime in a number of promising sectors including in renewable energy. The Vision further got strengthened by the new Industrial strategy of the Government of Bahrain for 2022-2026 which aims to boost the renewable energy sector including that for green and blue hydrogen,” he said. EEPC India Chairman Mahesh Desai said that India is one of the most opportune locations for investors ranging from equipment manufacturers to service providers. “Wind energy is leading the renewable energy mix with massive growth. In terms of solar energy, much growth has been done but due to massive availability of source, best is yet to come which can take India to the topmost position in the world’s solar market,” said Desai.
