New Delhi, Feb 9 (Agency) A total of 21,670 posts of teaching and non-teaching staff are vacant in various Central Universities in the country as on November 1, 2021, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education Dr Subhas Sarkar told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Banaras Hindu University tops the table with 499 teaching, and 3,354 non-teaching posts vacant, according to the statistics provided by the Minister.
He was responding to MP Neeraj Shekhar who wanted to know the details of vacancies of teaching and non-teaching staff in various central universities. Delhi University has 859 teaching, and 2,313 non-teaching vacancies, Aligarh Muslim University has 359 teaching and 1,223 non-teaching vacancies, Visva Bharati in West Bengal has 191 vacancies of teaching staff as well as 1,190 vacancies of non-teaching staff. University of Allahabad has 611 vacancies of teaching staff and 676 vacancies of non-teaching staff. The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi has 317 vacancies of teaching and 685 vacancies of non-teaching staff. The Indira Gandhi National Open University in Delhi has 148 vacancies of teaching and 1,284 vacancies of the non-teaching staff. The Mminister said that his ministry has asked all 46 Central Universities to fill up faculty positions lying vacant by way of a special drive.
