New Delhi, Feb 7 (Agency) Famous for its beaches and among top popular tourist destinations Goa has the highest per capita income in the country while Bihar sits at the bottom of the chart. As per official data, Goa had per capita income of Rs 4,55,654 at current prices in the financial year 2020-21. On the other hand, Bihar’s per capita income measured in terms of per capita net state domestic product (NSDP) stood at Rs 46,292 in the previous fiscal. The hill state of Sikkim ranked second with a per capita income of Rs 4,24,454 during FY21. Delhi occupied the third spot with the per capita income of Rs 3,54,004 in the previous financial year.
“As per the latest information received from State Governments, State/Union Territory-wise Per Capita Income, measured in terms of Per Capita Net State Domestic Product (NSDP), ranges from Rs 46,292 to Rs 4,55,654 at current prices and Rs 31,017 to Rs 3,07,108 at constant (2011-12) prices for the financial year 2020-21,” Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) Rao Inderjit Singh told Rajya Sabha in a written reply. While there has been wide income disparity in the country, the situation seems to have worsened during Covid pandemic in the wake of job loss and falling income level. The MOSPI data showed that per capita income in Uttar Pradesh slipped marginally to Rs 65,338 in FY21 from Rs 66,136 in the previous financial year. During this period, Tamil Nadu’s per capita income stood at Rs 2,25,106 while in Karnataka it was Rs 2,26,796. Kerala’s per capita income at current prices was Rs 1,94,767 in FY21, lower than previous two financial years.
