474 gms gold worth Rs. 20.69 lakh seized, one arrested

Chennai, Feb 4 (Bureau) Officials of Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) today arrested a male passenger, who arrived from Doha and seized 464 gms of gold valued at Rs 20.69 lakh from him at the Anna International airport here. A release from the Office of the Commissioner of Customs said based on specific Intelligence, the passenger, Aadhil Mohamed Jan Rafiq, who had arrived from Doha by Qatar Airways was intercepted at the exit by the AIU officers.

On examination, one gold-paste packet wrapped with black colour tape concealed in his inner pant pocket was found. On extraction one Gold ingot of 24K purity weighing 474 grams worth Rs 20.69 lakh (International Market Value) was seized under the Customs Act, 1962. The passenger was arrested. Further investigation is under progress.
