Kolkata, Dec 24 (AGency) Textile Ministry will very soon launch an e-commerce platform named E-Shilpmart, for the exclusive promotion and marketing of handloom and handicrafts products. This was stated by Rajesh Chatterjee, Deputy Director of Weavers’ Service Center, Kolkata a wing under the Minsitry of Textile at a webinar titled Promotion of local products, vocal for local jointly organized by Regional Outreach Bureau, Kolkata and Field Outreach Bureau, Chuchura.
He said, after the Prime Minister’s call for promoting local products a huge surge in the sale has been witnessed, which is a very positive development in this time of pandemic. Chatterjee informed that the weavers can now market their product through GeM, a government-run e-commerce portal. He also informed that his organization is relentlessly working with its beneficiaries for their inclusive development by providing technical support, necessary training and arranging loans from banks.
A.K.Mishra, Deputy General Manager, TRIFED, Ministry of Tribal Affairs said that their objective is to ensure socio-economic development and sustainable livelihood of tribal people in the country by way of marketing and development of the tribal products. He said that they have 126 outlets for selling the products made by the tribal apart from that there is also e marketing platform named marketplace tribes india. He assured that that products sold in the outlets as well as through the e commerce sites are pure, unadulterated, inexpensive and genuine. Mishra also informed how the implementation of the Van Dhan programme has helped the tribal in livelihood generation and transforming them into entrepreneurs.
G.K. Samanta, Deputy Secretary, Central Silk Board stated that they are trying to create greater opportunities for gainful employment and improved levels of income for the sericulture through spread of scientific sericulture practices, improving productivity in all stages of silk production and strengthening levels of efficiency through a commitment to quality. Rana Saha, Master Weaver and President,Mahesh Weavers’ Community said during lockdown the weavers had to face immense problem as there was no supply of raw materials and as a result weavers’ had to face terrible hardship. He also said being jobless for a long time a section of the weavers have shifted to other alternative source of income like daily laborers. He appreciated the concept of Vocal for local and Atmanairbhar Bharat.
