Need to increase ground water level: Thackeray

Mumbai, Dec 23 (Agency) To counter water shortage, it is necessary to increase the ground water level and to achieve this water supply, agriculture and soil conservation and water conservation departments should work in tandem, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said.
He was speaking after the presentation on Fatal ground water scheme at his official residence ‘Varsha” Tuesday evening. CM Thackeray said that the government is committed to providing daytime electricity to farmers and water to every household. To increase the water level there is a need to effectively implement the “Jaladhar Punarbharan Yojana” (refilling water sources scheme), he said. He also directed to give priority to eater conservation works, and rejuvenate eater storage schemes of Chhatrpati Shivaji’s time. Public participation should be elucidated to increase ground eater level and help of NGOs should be taken besides creating water literacy and awareness among the people, he said. He also suggested conveniNg a separate meeting to review Jalayukta Shiva Scheme.

He further said that many parts in Mastheads face water shortage and drought. To resolve this issue proposal regarding Mastheads Water Grid should be submitted at the earliest, he directed. On the occasion Water supply minster Gulabrao Patio said that sprinkle irrigation has benefitted in many ways besides generating employment opportunities, adding that more emphasis needs to be given on this aspect.
