Break language barrier to boost science: Minister

New Delhi, Dec 29 (FN Agency) Union Minister for State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said on Wednesday that the country’s “excellent intelligence” can be given a boost by promoting science education and dissemination through Indian languages. Releasing the latest issue of science magazine ‘Dream-2047’ and Urdu science monthly ‘Tajassus’ published by Vigyan Prasar in Hindi and English, Singh said: “If we have to bring forward the country’s outstanding intelligence, then language barrier … must be broken.” He said that by promoting science education in Indian languages, science and technology can be taken to new heights. Emphasizing on reducing dependence on translation, he said this sometimes leads to a ridiculous situation. He added that Google translation sometimes creates an uncomfortable situation.

Singh lauded the Central University of Kashmir and the University of Kashmir for publishing the Urdu science monthly ‘Tajassus’. “Our learning deepens when we take education in the mother tongue.” Vigyan Prasar has launched a campaign in Indian languages. Efforts are being made to transmit the latest scientific research and development in Indian languages ??under the Vigyan Bhasha initiative. Television and radio programs will be produced in all Indian languages ??to take science to the masses. Vigyan Prasar has launched the country’s only OTT channel, India Science TV. So far this channel has produced more than 3000 programmes in Hindi and English. In the new education policy, the government has emphasized promotion of Indian languages ??in the education of science, technology and technology.
