New Delhi, Dec 29 (FN Agency) Doctors on strike over the NEET PG 2021 counselling on Wednesday continued their work stoppage although the police barred them from holding a demonstration in view of the heightened Yellow Alert due to rising Covid-19 cases. A planned demonstration of the Resident Doctors at Safdarjung Hospital, one of the oldest and the biggest in the capital, was prevented by the police. Dr Manish, President, Federation of Resident Doctors Association, told UNI that the doctors were not allowed to protest “due to the Yellow level restrictions”. “But our strike will continue with a boycott of all clinical services across hospitals in Delhi and other states,” he added. Restrictions have been imposed in Delhi in view of rising Covid cases and a threat of the Omicron variant spreading.
The city witnessed the highest single-day spike in the last six months on Tuesday where close to 500 new infections were recorded. Meanwhile, the resident doctors of Delhi Government-run Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital announced they will boycott emergency services and ICU wards against the “brutal” police action against doctors two days ago. On Monday, hundreds of doctors were detained here as they marched to the Supreme Court. The doctors alleged brutal use of force by the police. They said many residents were thrashed, pushed and abused. Female doctors alleged they were manhandled by male police personnel. Patient care in Delhi was affected for the 13th day as the resident doctors have boycotted all services.
