Prez, PM hail Kidambi on winning silver

New Delhi, Dec 20 (Agency) President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated Kidambi Srikanth for winning a historic silver medal at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) championships. The President tweeted: “Congratulations Kidambi Srikanth on becoming the first Indian to win a silver medal in men’s singles at BWF. This is an outstanding feat. Your hard work and dedication are an inspiration for our youth.

My best wishes for your bright future!” Modi said: “Congratulations to @srikidambi for winning a historic Silver Medal. This win will inspire several sportspersons and further interest in badminton.” The former world No.1 became the first male India shuttler to win silver at the prestigious tournament. Srikanth lost 15-21, 20-22 to Loh Kean Yew of Singapore in a summit clash on Sunday to settle for silver. Previously, Prakash Padukone and Sai Praneeth won the Bronze in 1983 and 2019 respectively in men’s singles event. Lakshya Sen also took a Bronze after he went down to his senior compatriot in the semis.
